In the "Tibet Autonomous Region", Tibetans are often left behind by the current spectacular economic boom. Whereas in the past they might have considered becoming farmers, shepherds or yak drivers, today's young people have no future other than to be unemployed. Against this backdrop, some twenty young Tibetans from economically disadvantaged villages in the Tingri region, under the initiative of Nima Tsering, also a Tibetan, are joining the first mountain guide school to be set up in Lhasa. The aim was to teach them a profession - that of guiding - in harmony with their way of life and culture. Will this visionary and unprecedented project (the only initiative of its kind to date) enable these "privileged" people to emerge from their precarious situation? By returning to their region to practice their profession, will they help to revive a local economy that could save their civilization, which is currently in danger?
