You asked a question about circumcision, and if it hurts, and how they numb a baby before they do it. And circumcision is usually done before a baby goes home from the hospital or 2 weeks later in the doctors office. And the good thing about doing it when the baby is very, very new is that they're kind of in a natural sleep state. This is almost a natural anesthetic, and in addition to that, we give babies a binky that has sugar water on it, and let them suck on it, and that is very soothing to them, and yes, they are also numbed. So if you have more questions about the procedure, talk with your pediatrician beforehand, and if you don't want to watch, then that's okay. They'll also spend time with you talking about how to care for it after the circumcision. It usually requires special care for about 4 to 7 days, and the pediatrician will want to see you again at that point to make sure things are healing nicely.
