Part 3 of 3. Creating camp from scratch. We got lost on this day which set us back miles and hours. This required some bushwhacking. I don’t mind bushwhacking at all, but when you are already ankle-deep in snow, and behind schedule, it is no fun. When you get lost, stay cool headed. Take your time, make good decisions. It helps if you remind yourself that because you’re so prepared (you never go into the woods without being well prepared, right?) you can set up camp anywhere, if necessary. That’s what we did - we made a decision to beat the sunset and get a camp built because of the dropping temperatures and our tired, cold bodies. It was the right decision. In this adventure you get to see us fill our bellies with melted snow for water. I walk you through the right mindset to have while building a fire in less-than-ideal conditions. We cook bacon over a fire without a skillet. My boots freeze solid and you get to see my buddy thaw them out for me.
