『Genji Monogatari』 is a Japanese long story and novel, established in the mid-Heian period. It was first published in 1008. It is the only narrative work of its author, Murasaki Shikibu, in his lifetime. In her late twenties, Murasaki Shikibu, who came from a lower class aristocratic background, married Fujiwara Nobutaka and had a daughter, but her husband died about three years after their marriage, and she began writing stories to forget this reality. This is the beginning of ""The Tale of Genji"". Because paper was precious in those days, he enjoyed writing stories on whatever paper was available and critiquing them among his friends. Murasaki Shikibu took the opportunity to move up to the court and continued to write tales with the help of Michinaga Fujiwara, and the 54 chapters of ""The Tale of Genji"" were completed. The Tale of Genji was painted in the ""Tale of Genji"" in the late Heian period, about 150 years after it was first published in print. Among the existing picture scrolls, those owned by the Tokugawa Art Museum and the Goto Museum of Art are national treasures.
