This voiceover movie "4 miles from Xtiania" shows the journey to
Anne Lister and her wife Ann Walker and their experiences in Norway
from Sunday 28 July to Wednesday 14 August in 1839.
The text is transcribed from Anne Lister's travel- and financial notes.
To transcribe this text we have received extensive help from members
of the amazing transcribing team Anne Lister Code Breakers.
SLAM!Poet Martine Næss Johansen reads the text.
Various Norwegian artists who traveled around Norway in the mid-19th
century have sketched the drawings in this film. The painter
Johan Christian Dahl drew the drawing of Akershus Fortress
just 18 days before Anne and Ann visited the fortress.
The newspaper ads, books, and the note from the Police Chief in
Christiana is real.
It has been a great pleasure to work with Calderdale Museums
and the West Yorkshire Archive Service in Halifax and
Cultural History Museum in Oslo with this project.
