John Neggia was born on January 17th, 1926 in Minvielle New York. He was 15 years old when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and dropped out of school soon after to go to work. At 17, John tried enlisting in the U.S. Navy but was disqualified for being color blind. A year later he tried joining the Navy again but was drafted into the Army instead in April of 1944. After completing basic training, John would be assigned to the 76th Infantry Division under General Patton's 3rd Army. By January 1945, John's unit was in mainland Europe, ready to fight against the Germans. John was an infantryman throughout his journey across Western Europe until the war's end. He served in the Army for 1 year, 4 months, and 23 days. 8 months, and 25 days were in Europe. John was honorably discharged on May 22nd, 1946. John recently turned 97 and I will be showing him this video next week. #wwii #war #history #veteran Footage sources: https://www.archives.gov/ https://archive.org/ #veteran #viralvideo #history #wwii #ww2 #military #army #usarmy #viral #video #documentary "Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.
