Blackouts continue to roll across South Africa. Stage 6 rolling blackouts were announced on Sunday, the highest rolling blackout level since 2019. It has since been downgraded to stage 5. But the gaps in supply and the vulnerability of the grid remain alarming. The general gap that led to an emergency energy plan in July is between 4 000 and 6 000 MW. But on Sunday about half of Eskom's generation capacity was offline, with 15600 MW lost due to breakdowns and 7 000 MW offline for planned maintenance.
