Lipid-lowering agents, or hypolipidemic agents, are a group of drugs that are used in the treatment of high levels of fats, such as triglycerides and cholesterol, in the blood. Hyperlipidemia (also known as high cholesterol) is the key contributing factors to the development of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), which can lead to stroke and heart attack.
