The 2017 Geddes Memorial Lecture features Ian Hislop (Editor of Private Eye) in conversation with Helen Lewis (Deputy Editor of the New Statesman) on 3 March in the Examination Schools at the University of Oxford. Topics for discussion include Ian's time at Oxford and involvement in student journalism, how he became Private Eye editor aged just 26, what makes people cancel their subscriptions, and the opinions most likely to get him into trouble. The Geddes Lecture is an annual event organised by St Edmund Hall, University of Oxford, and the Philip Geddes Trust, in memory of Philip Geddes, an alumnus of St Edmund Hall and promising young journalist who was killed by an IRA bomb blast in 1983, aged just 24.
