Final Fantasy VIII is an absolutely genius game at its core... yet, it's my second least favorite of all the games I have played. This is because the execution of all those genius ideas at its core tends to vary depending on your personal temperament. Therefore, I can totally understand why people love and hate this game. For some people, those ideas will all be executed very well, and for some, not well at all.
