TV DUEL TRUMP VS. BIDEN: Verbal mud-slinging! President's lapses worry Democrats! In their first televised debate of the current election campaign, US President Joe Biden and his predecessor Donald Trump launched a sharp verbal attack on each other. In their duel broadcast by CNN on Thursday evening (local time), they engaged in fierce verbal battles about their record on economic policy, the controversial issues of migration and abortion, and did not shy away from personal attacks. Biden's performance was later criticized in his Democratic camp as mixed, and leading strategists in the party now expect an internal debate on whether the 81-year-old president should continue his campaign. It was the first meeting between the opponents in around four years. Biden and Trump had not spoken since their last debate in the weeks before the 2020 election. In January 2021, the outgoing president did not attend the swearing-in of his successor. Prior to this, Trump had made unprecedented attempts to tilt the election result in his favor. As a result, Trump's supporters violently stormed the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. To this day, he refuses to concede defeat.
