Biography of the Speaker :
Dr. Venkatraman Sadanand is a pediatric neurosurgeon and epilepsy surgeon by profession with practice experience in three countries. He is also the Founding Chairman of the Board and CEO of HouseCallsNow Inc., the Executive VP (Strategy) of SecondOpinionExpert Inc., and a Former Director of the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics. He received his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India. He graduated with an MS and Ph.D. in economics and game theory from Caltech. He was a tenured Professor of Economics and Strategy. Subsequently, he obtained an MD from the University of Toronto, a Neurosurgery residency from the University of Saskatchewan, a Pediatric Neurosurgery fellowship from Northwestern University, Chicago, and Skull Base Surgery training from Germany. He is an elected Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. He has spoken on neuroscience research at the U.S. Congress, the Legislative Assembly of the State of California, and the G20/N20. He spends considerable time volunteering with a group of physicians who provide free and compassionate healthcare to rural and economically disadvantaged communities worldwide in 110 countries.​He is a recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award from IIT Madras.
Abstract :
The human brain is a fascinating organ studied for eons by scholars from many fields: engineering, biology, medicine, economics, game theory, and mathematics, to name a few. This talk is about how engineers have advanced the field of neuroscience through collaborations across these specialties. The topic of brain versus mind will also be elucidated.
