Hematuria is the medical name for blood in the urine. Hematuria can be visible (called gross), or only visible by a microscope. There are many causes of hematuria including infections, inflammation, trauma, stones, and tumors. Workup usually consists of imaging of the kidneys and the bladder and then a cystoscopic examination (camera into the bladder).
