Captain Tong Lye Heng was involved in search and destroy operations during the Communist insurgency period in Malaysia in the ‘60s and ‘70s.
On 10th of June 1971, a group of 30-50 Communists were expected to cross the Thai-Malaysia border. Captain Tong and his platoon set up an ambush and were ready for battle.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned and Captain Tong was shot.
He’s here today to share his story about fighting the Communist and how he almost lost his life.
