On the death anniversary or Mahaparinirvan Diwas of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, we discuss one key aspect of his body of work - religious conversion. Ambedkar's exit from Hinduism and his embrace of Buddism has to be looked at as a reform movement for the depressed castes. But the same cannot be said about other forms of conversion where allegations of force or deceit have surfaced. Also, the discourse around religious conversion has moved on from reform to ''conserving demographic balance.''
