In the fall of 1941, a group of illegals rescues the arrested communists Toma and Pavle from the camp. Illegal Petar is supposed to transfer them to the partisan units, but on the way they are intercepted by an Ustasha patrol, which escorts the arrested partisan Krilet to the city. The patrol is overpowered, Krile is freed, and Petar separates from them and arranges a meeting at a nearby forest construction site,
where a "connection" for the partisans awaits them. At the agreed place, Tomo and his group find neither Peter nor the "relationship". Despite being on a warrant, Tomo goes to a nearby tavern to find out what happened. The owner of the inn, Marko, recognizes Tom and reports him to Ustasha official Krešimir Lisac, who is staying with him.
The fox arrests Toma and tries to transfer him to the city, however, Pavle and Krile are in an ambush and prevent anyone from leaving the inn. In the inn, tension grows: Marko forces his assistant Mali to help Lisac, which the waitress Marija does not approve of. There is also the mysterious Dugi, whose side it is not known about...
