Adhesions are a complication that can occur after a little boy has been circumcised. Doctors will teach parents how to retract the skin and to make sure no adhesions form, and will check it again at each appointment. If one has started to form, then the adhesion can be broken by retracting the skin back with force, and then applying petroleum jelly or triple antibiotic cream until the area has healed. You asked a really good question--you want to know how long can this be a complication? Your son's 12 months old. It would be best to ask your son's pediatrician about this because they can check it out, see if there's been any complications, and then give you the best information based on the exam. If no adhesions have formed and everything looks like it's going well, then it's probably okay to just do an occasional check when you change his diaper. And it's not something you need to do every time, you know, when you retract the skin and make sure that it's developing like it should. So, again, talk to the doctor, and they can give you the best information based on what they see and what they know about your son's history.
