https://LeadersBeverage.Com & http://www.qualitydraftsystems.com In today’s short video, Drew will be going through 5 things that could be causing you to have no beer at the faucet. Below is a short recap of those things you can check at your own location before having to call a tech out. Each possible cause below is linked the that spot in the video if you want to jump ahead. This is obviously not an exhaustive list of things that could be wrong. If you have a question or a suggestion for a video please post below. We do our best to read and respond to every comment. We’ll also highlight and link a few of our other videos that may be helpful. So, you pulled the handle on your beer tower and nothing came out! These are 5 things you can do to troubleshoot this issue. 1. Is the Keg empty? 3:47 This seems very obvious, but we have been on so many service calls over the last decade for empty kegs we are including this. Sometimes, it is trapped by other kegs so even if you do try to lift the keg it seems empty. Get in there and really make sure you have beer. Just be careful of your back! 2. Keg coupler is wrong or not properly engaged: 4:32 You may have heard the coupler referred to as many other things, like a tavern head or a tap. You may have also heard the term Sankey, which is like saying Kleenex for a tissue. What is often called and American Sankey is a D Series coupler. What is often referred to as a European Sankey is an S series coupler. There aren’t many G series keg collars out there anymore (Anchor used to use them) but they were often confused with Key Keg couplers. If you aren’t sure, send us some good photos and we’ll see if we can help. We are very busy so just give us a bit to respond. Here is our video on How to Tap A Keg and the difference between S & D style couplers. https://youtu.be/gzqjbWm_4A0 One thing not mentioned in the video. If you have a check ball in the coupler but for some reason there is not check ball retainer, the check ball will block the line. This is super rare but we thought we’d mention it. Here is a video on how to break down and clean a coupler. https://youtu.be/LmtdkjdEq1E -FOB issue: 6:34 The most common issue with the FOB is that it tripped. When a keg is empty gas goes through the jumper into the FOB (which stands for Foam On Beer) and pushes the float down shutting off the flow of beer. In this case, the issue is your Keg is empty because the FOB did what it was supposed to. However, the problem comes in when the keg is changed but the FOB isn’t reset. If you are a subscriber, you will get a notice when we do a video just on FOBs. It is also possible if you have very thick products or beverages with pulp and sediment that they blocked the mechanism. -Gas Pressure: 9:21 There are many possible problems with gas. You might be out of gas. If you have a gas blender, even one gas being empty will shut the blender off. Drew only mentions gas cylinders and points out a Nitrogen Generator. However, you may have a bulk gas system that is off or a Nitrogen Generator not working. More possibilities are that a gas switch is off or the actual cylinders aren’t open. As long as we are talking about gas, here is our in depth video about how to search for and find a draft beer system gas leak. https://youtu.be/jWY4VOjyYxk -Frozen or blocked lines: 13:37 Frozen lines are rare unless something is wrong with your glycol power pack. If the temperature probe is in the wrong spot it could allow your system to get far to cold. The same thing could happen if the control box has a problem. If either of those issues are happening the glycol will be in the low 20’s or lower. Typically, the glycol bath should be around 26-32. Our go to setting for most applications is 29. If there is water in your lines, that temperature could freeze it. You could also have a physical obstruction from sediment in the beverage to plastic ripping out of the lines. Hopefully you never have an obstructed line because there is so much built up mold and bacteria the elixir can’t flow. If you want to know a little more about the glycol power pack here is a link to a short post on our website about them and what kind of tech you should call. https://leadersbeverage.com/glycol-power-pack-issues/ We wish you the best of luck. On of our many goals is to help you solve problems without having to spend your resources on service calls. When you can fix a problem on a Saturday night and get beer flowing again, well, you know that is a good thing. We offer education onsite, at our shop, and via live stream.
