Using Software like Photoshop helps us to get back the desired colors or even improve existing colors to create epic scenes. With this Photoshop tutorial, I want to show you the color grading process for one of my coolest sunset shots of this year 0:00 Intro For this shot I wanted to introduce way stronger sunset colors, making the whole scene a lot warmer while also getting back details from the shadows without overexposing the sky too much. Most of that was done in the camera raw editor, while I used Photoshop for some final adjustments 0:26 1. Basic Adjustments I started by changing the profile to Adobe Landscape for more saturation and to brighten up the dark parts a bit. Then, I adjusted the white balance to make the whole scene a lot warmer. I increased the exposure to add details to the shadows, then dropped the highlight to prevent overexposure. Also, the shadows were raised slightly. Finally, I added texture, clarity and vibrance. 2:27 2. Local Adjustments I started with a luminance range mask to target the shadows of the image (mainly the village in the foreground) Here, I dropped the saturation, the temperature and raised the tint to get rid of any strange looking color cast. Then, I added a sky mask and brought up the clarity to make the clouds more interesting. I added a linear gradient on the very top part of the sky to bring down the exposure and make it a little darker up there. For the glow on the left, I used two differently sized radial gradients and increased blacks, decreased the dehaze and played around with the temperature. 5:33 3. Color Adjustments In the Hue tab, I brought down the green and yellow hue. For the saturation, I boosted, the orange, yellow and blue tones, while further bringing down the green tones. The biggest change came with the split toning, here, I added a warm, very saturated color to the highlights and the mid-tones, while adding blue to the shadows. 9:13 4. Photoshop I used a second, brighter exposed shot to overlay for the foreground since the base image was still quite dark there. This way I got a well exposed foreground without too much noise. Then, I enhanced the glow by using a hard light layer and a warm, soft brush and carefully brushed in some more glow. With a tone curve adjustments layer I introduced more red tones to the highlights (using the red channel in the tone curve)
